Tachi Palace Casino Resort

When Tachi Palace Casino Resort installed a unique 9.5’ x 22’ LED display over the main entrance, we filled their playlist with a series of high-impact, forced perspective content.

A key physical design element of this display is the integrated vertical seams partitioning it into three distinct sections. We used these seams to inspire our pieces and help them feel like a natural continuation of not just the display, but the building itself!

High Energy Series

We started with a series of four videos that turned each partition into a slot reel to showcase a few of the many gaming and entertainment opportunities offered at Tachi Palace. After a brief spin and land, each slot reel opens into a forced perspective space where a gaming element launches forward for a 3D hero moment. Bingo balls, bowling pins, casino chips, and playing cards all make a dramatic & energizing turn as featured elements.

Branding

Next up were a pair of videos to showcase the main Tachi Palace logo and their Players Cards.

As any design team will tell you, laying out a wide-text logo on the narrow canvas of the portrait partitions can prove tricky. To solve this issue for the logo animation, we used the full screen as a forced perspective space while treating the seams as integrated foreground elements. This approach enhanced the impact of the forced perspective look. To maintain the readability of the logo despite the foreground overlay, we relied on Persistence of Vision and kept the logo always moving. The result is a bombastic, energized logo treatment!

For the Players Cards, we kept the partitions as their own sections designed to feel like more traditional architecture. Players’ cards fly out for hero 3D “wow-factor” moments while alternating panels feature icon logos to reinforce branding.

Nature Evergreens

To round out the initial content package for this LED display, we also created a few nature scenes.

The first features a majestic coyote stepping out onto a rocky ledge to reenact its howl featured in the Tachi Palace icon logo. An eagle lands beside the coyote, and the two share a look before the eagle flies gallantly towards the camera.

We then created day and night versions of a bronze statue Chief resting atop a fountain. The statue was meticulously custom-modeled from scratch to match existing artwork from Tachi Palace.

Richie Shorts

The true highlight of our work for Tachi Resort Casino is a pair of comedic shorts starring their mascot: Richie! Richie is a puppet that Tachi Palace already uses in many of their promotional videos. Much of the comedy came out in his quick wit when talking with guests. Since our LED canvas did not feature an audio component, we wanted to lean into physical comedy, so we re-created Richie as a full 3D model capable of walking, running, and falling on his keister.

Red Curtain

The first Richie short features our hero trying to sneak on stage for a chance to perform. It’s a classic premise comedians have played going back to “I Love Lucy”, vaudeville, and the early days of theater itself. What makes it unique is HOW the comedian tries to sneak on stage, and what happens when they’re caught!

Portals

The second Richie short is a bit more fantastical. Richie chases a loose gaming chip. Falling through a series of teleporting portals, the loose chip gives Richie quite the journey!

Both shorts feature incredible character animation. They also showcase how DOOH can be used not just for promotions and digital art but also for comedic storytelling.
